You were there for Students:  $105,000 raised at Light A Fire for Learning Luncheon

The Northshore Schools Foundation held its 8th Annual Light a Fire for Learning Luncheon on April 26th. An audience of more than 200 Foundation supporters raised over $105,000 to support Foundation initiatives to enhance learning opportunities for all students in the Northshore School District.

The luncheon entertainment consisted of the Leota Junior High School Orchestra (under the direction of Instructor and Northshore Alumni, Darren Meucci) and; the Third grade dual language class of Woodin Elementary under the direction of teacher Heather Arnold.   Both programs have benefitted from donations from the Foundation in the past so their performance was a delightful addition to the program.

Dale Amundsen, immediate past chair of the Greater Bothell Chamber of Commerce. emceed the event.   The Torchbearer’s Award was presented to B-Z Davis, former Foundation Board member and strong Foundation supporter, for her commitment to children and her service on the Levy committee.  Executive Director, Carmin Dalziel also spoke briefly on the mission of the Foundation.

The highlight of the event was Inglemoor senior, Claire Mortimore who shared her story of overcoming a learning disability to become and AP student.  Mortimore shared how foundation dollars impacted her throughout her tenure as a student, from heart monitors to Robotics class, making it clear that grants funded by the Foundation have a long lasting impact on her and other students.
