2011-2013 Funding Initiatives
On behalf of the nearly 19,000 students of the Northshore School district, the Northshore Schools Foundation has established five funding initiatives to focus our attention on for the next three years. These comprehensive initiatives were indentified as a result of the collective work of the District personnell, School Principals and Foundation Board members. We believe that by focusing our resources we can make sustainable impacts on the learning experience of our students in while building funding relationships with corporations and granters who share our intentions.
The Five Funding Initiatives are:
- Advanced and Disadvantaged Learners
- Enhancement Programming (Health, Fitness, Art & Music)
- Literacy Curriculum Enhancement
- Science, Technology, Engineering & Math Curriculum and
- Teacher Excellence

Funding programs
We provide financial support for these initiative through the following programs:
Innovative Classroom Grants
“ I, like many teachers, enjoy opportunities to be creative with curriculum, and instruction. As learning standards and curriculum become more fixed, teachers have fewer and fewer opportunities to create their own activities and lessons. I spent 2-4 hours assembling and creating [these] activities … and enjoyed every minute of it. I am looking forward to enhancing and improving [them] for next year. THANK YOU FOR funding this grant. It has and will continue to have a positive impact on student learning in Northshore. ” – 2009 Grant Recipient
Each year, the Foundation awards Classroom Grants throughout the district. These grants are applied for by district teachers and are designed to promote innovation and creativity. In the past 6 years, the Foundation has awarded 100 classroom grants exceeding over $100,000. The grants have touched every school in the district. For the upcoming 2009-2010 school year, the Foundation awarded 21 classroom grants in 13 schools totaling over $16,000.
Teacher Training and Certification
This funding category is in its second year for the Foundation. We are looking to support teachers in getting the training they need to be excellent teachers for our students. We will be setting up a fund that can be used for reimbursement of certification fees, mentoring support, and professional videotaping of portfolios.
