PROGRAMS

Literacy Initiative in Elementary Schools

The Foundation continues its focus on promoting literacy initiatives in elementary schools and assists with the acquisition of leveled readers and new instructional material (including new textbooks) in district elementary schools.

Updated Instructional Materials (including new textbooks) in Secondary Schools

Foundation funds have been used to acquire new textbooks for advanced learning classes at the Secondary level.  In 2008, Foundation funds purchased over 1,000 new text books in core curriculum advanced learning classes.

Classroom Grants that Promote Teacher Innovation

Each year, the Foundation awards Classroom Grants throughout the district. These grants are applied for by district teachers and are designed to promote innovation and creativity.  In the past 6 years, the Foundation has awarded 100 classroom grants exceeding over $100,000. The grants have touched every school in the district. For the upcoming 2009-2010 school year, the Foundation awarded 21 classroom grants in 13 schools totaling over $16,000.

Teacher Training and Certification

This is a new funding category for the Foundation.  We are looking to assist teachers who are going through the National Board Certification process.  Specifically, we will be setting up a fund that can be used for reimbursement of certification fees, mentoring support, and professional videotaping of portfolios.
